The presentation will include information on:
- The refugee resettlement process.
- The differences between refugee status and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) status.
- The essentials of Afghan culture, practices, and values.
- Understanding the barriers between Afghan clients and service provision.
- Strategies for implementing multiculturally sensitive practices to promote social justice.
- Creative ideas and tools to build trust with your Afghan clients.
PRESENTERS
Lina Nazar, RN MS FNP-c, is a Dari/English-bilingual family nurse practitioner with experience working in primary care, urgent care, private oncology, and hospital settings.
Lila Samady, LCSW, is a Dari/Spanish/English-trilingual licensed clinical social worker with experience working with children and families in community mental health agencies.
Sohi Lachini, Psy.D., is a Farsi/English-bilingual licensed psychologist who currently serves as the PEI program supervisor and staff psychologist at JFCS East Bay, providing services to Afghan newcomer families.
