A discussion on the complexities of working with people living in fear of detention and deportation in the Trump Era.
Please join JFCS East Bay’s Prevention and Early Intervention Program for a panel presentation on better understanding the post-2016 election complexities of working with undocumented immigrants and their loved ones.
The presentation will include information on:
- Diversity information on clients who are impacted by immigration enforcement policies.
- Creative ideas and tools to build trust with clients.
- Identifying mental health needs of clients and local referral resources.
- Barriers and struggles of working with clients who have experienced trauma (vicarious trauma, tertiary trauma, and so on).
- Importance of self-care in providing quality services.
PRESENTERS
Dr. Esmeralda Zamudio – Dr. Zamudio is a clinical psychologist focused on conducting psychological evaluations as requested by immigration attorneys. She is the co-author of Recommendations for Psychological Practices with Undocumented Immigrants, developed by the California Psychological Association Immigration Task Force Committee.
Dr. Ivonne Mejia – Dr. Mejia is a staff psychologist at Mills College. She is the co-author of Recommendations for Psychological Practices with Undocumented Immigrants, developed by the California Psychological Association Immigration Task Force Committee.
Liliana Campos, M.S. – Ms. Campos is a clinical psychology doctoral candidate at USF and is currently working on her dissertation, “Fear of Deportation & Deportability Among Undocumented College Students During the Donald Trump Presidency.” Ms. Campos has experience working with undocumented immigrants at Educators for Fair Consideration (E4FC).
